About
MIRANTE DO GAVIÃO
Mirante do Gavião Amazon Lodge is located in Novo Airão—the last city accessible by land, 180 km northwest of Manaus, in the state of Amazonas.
Facing the Anavilhanas National Park, the second-largest river archipelago in the world (with over 400 islands), this design hotel stands out for its grandeur, rooted in Amazonian shipbuilding techniques.
The panoramic view of the Rio Negro, with its dark waters and dense vegetation, sets the stage where traditional tourism is left behind, revealing the remote and preserved regions of the Amazon to our guests.
The Inspiration Behind the Name
Despite the vastness of the Amazon plains, much of what is experienced here is observing nature from the ground or the river. The harpy eagle, the largest bird of prey in Brazil and one of the largest in the world, also inhabits this region. Inspired by the desire to offer the same vantage point that these birds have of the forest and rivers, the idea of providing other observation angles was born. The combination of offering viewpoints at the highest points of the hotel, over 15 meters tall, and showcasing one of the most beautiful sunset views over the Rio Negro and the Anavilhanas Archipelago, gave rise to the name Mirante do Gavião (Hawk’s Lookout).
The Purpose
Mirante do Gavião promotes experiences that are deeply integrated with the jungle and its people. Everything about it carries a purpose, encompasses experiences, and involves life stories—those of the staff, the riverside communities, the guests, the partners, and the forest itself!
This ideal is reflected in the architecture, landscaping, gastronomy, services provided by local people, the tours, and the way it integrates the authenticity and cultural elements of the region with the standards of international hospitality.
Since August 2014, the team has grown to over 45 members from the local community, who have been trained to provide excellent service that meets luxury hospitality standards, without losing the warmth and friendliness that is so natural to the Amazonian people!
Structure
In 2019, Mirante do Gavião expanded to a total of 13 accommodations. The restructuring included the addition of more social areas, and today the lodge’s leisure facilities offer guests a living room, hammock and game area, wellness space, viewpoints overlooking the Rio Negro, a swimming pool, and the restaurant lounge, one of the guests’ favorite spots. The entire structure was designed, planned, and built to harmonize with the surroundings. Looking around, it’s evident that we are a small fraction of the forest, but we are part of it. We are also its extension.
